Jun 14th 2015 | It's On The Tip of My Tongue

This month's shipment was a box containing three items perfect for any movie night. This shipment will likely arrive to you between July 12th - 19th. The contents were next generation gummies, plum seeds and gum perfect for freaking out mom.

Plum Seed "Soft" Candy

This soft candy says it's shaped like a plum seed, and hard as one too. It really does have a strong umeboshi (Japanese plum) taste! The outside shell is hard and sour, but the inside is soft and sweet. This is a great way to experience one of Japan's staple treats. I'm normally not a fan of Japan plums, going so far as to pick them out of my bentos, but these were quite tasty!

Shige Kicks Evolution Soda Gummies

Shige Kicks are a popular candy in Japan known for kicking you in the face with sourness. The bear looking guy is their character. These are not über super biting though. I can't even taste the sourness. The flavor is even more of a mystery: What the heck is "evolution soda?" I've been in Tokyo four years trying all manner of soft drinks and have seen anything like that. It does taste like orange soda though. Maybe that wasn't eye-catching enough.

Lotte Yokai Bubblegum

This silly looking package of gum displays Japanese ghost (Yokai in Japanese). Keeping up with the specter motif, the gum actually changes your tongue different colors! Japanese ghost aren't rude though so there are paper strips inside for disposing of your chewed gun. Don't worry about any ghostly flavors. Yokai apparently taste like peace (bemmu's note: what does peace taste like? ) (・_・ヾ).

The post-it notes inside are for disposing the chewed bubble gum after you are done with them!

Purikura is super weird. I don't think the machines know how to function with foreign eyes either. I know they're supposed to make your eyes big, but mine just become ridiculously huge.

Yeah purikura sure is weird! It enlarges your eyes and pushes exposure to levels where any imperfection in bound to disappear. Here is our Japanese photo booth shot with my wife Nachi, me Bemmu and some couchsurfers. Don't we look fabulous?
